A refreshing Southern cocktail traditionally served at the Kentucky Derby, made with bourbon, mint, sugar, and crushed ice.

Bourbon: 1 half-gallon + 2 fifths (178 oz)

Simple/Mint Syrup: 48 oz (6 cups)

Water (for dilution): 30 oz (3.5 cups)

Fresh Mint Leaves (garnish): ~320 leaves (~40 sprigs, or ~1 cup tightly packed)

Garnish: with a mint sprig for aroma

Final Volume: 256 oz (2 gallons)

Notes:

  • Muddle mint leaves with simple syrup in a large container, then strain to remove solids.
